Ken Hoad

"It is with great sadness that we need to tell you of the recent death of Ken Hoad at 10.15 pm on Monday evening, 19th October. Ken and Rosie cycled down to Havant Park on several occasions this Summer from Widley but after recently playing Golf with ex Mayfield School teaching colleagues and football with his Grandson, he collapsed 10 days ago from a massive stroke which included also a massive bleed on the brain.

He had a private room in QA but then developed pneumonia and latterly was unable to communicate. Our thoughts obviously go out to Rosie and his 3 children, Kenneth, Catriona and Marianne who all spent time with Ken in QA in recent days.

Ken was a hugely valuable member of Havant CC, an accomplished left hand bat in his day, an excellent wicket-keeper, who represented the Club at every level. He became fixture secretary for many years and served conscientiously on the Committee. He became a Vice President for his contribution to the Club over the years and was an annual ball sponsor.

He had a distinguished teaching career as Head of Geography at first Northern Grammar School for Boys and subsequently at Mayfield School  where he coached the Boys 1st XI Football team for many years as well as refereeing in local football.

He will be sorely missed"

Geoff Owen
